The ongoing development of a child-centric environment involves careful planning. I strive to establish an organized learning space, formulate group and individual objectives, and remain mindful of impromptu educational opportunities. My home is structured with numerous interest areas that allow children to choose their activities. The various centers and learning experiences provided include:

Art Center – The children use a wide variety of materials from paints to play-doe. These activities develop creativity and hand eye-coordination.

Block Center – The children use blocks as tools to build creative structures. This develops divergent thinking and allows for dramatic play. Children can work individually or cooperatively. Problem solving and cooperation are encouraged.

Music and Dance – I utilize listening, action songs, rhythm participation through musical instruments and sing – along, creative movement, dance, and body awareness.

Pretend Center – the children use props to role play scenes from life. Role playing build vocabulary enhances self- concept and social relations.

Water Table – the children relax as they play in water, sand and a variety of other substances that allow them to pour, mix and measure.

Reading Center – This is a place where children can explore books alone, with friends, and at our story time.

Outdoor play – provides space for climbing, digging, riding, tricycles, swinging and creative play.

Parent communication is developed by observation reports of how your child works and plays in the different centers so that parents have a better understanding of how their child functions in my family day care home. Opportunities are available for parents to observe and I am always available for consultation upon parent request.
